DESIGN

Zirkon helps customers integrate and develop detailed ideas or design briefs, offering valuable knowledge and expertise at every stage. This enables us to develop an end product that is evolved by experts and tailored to the customer’s exact requirements. This, combined with the excellent working relationships that we build with our customers, ultimately provides them with value-added solutions.

Our experts combine both traditional skills and vision with the latest CAD technology to develop new concepts, turn original early stage ideas into manufacturable designs, develop workable prototypes, and evolve and improve existing products. We work in partnership with external experts on items such as castings, metalwork, and plastic enclosures, which brings even more knowledge to the project.

Better engineered products mean increased productivity, greater efficiency and reliability, and a faster turnaround and lower unit costs for our customers.

There are various different methods that can be used in order to address electronics design. Zirkon’s expertise in design covers:

- Control systems

- Electronic Solutions

- Electronic Interfaces - Using analogue, digital, microprocessor or mixed technologies including software for the microprocessors used.

- Wire less control links using RF and infra-red

- Printed Circuit Board layout

- Electromechanical systems that may be part of a Control System

DEVELOPMENT

Zirkon’s development team, working along side the customer, has the expertise and capability to turn design concept into prototypes and test samples prior to volume manufacture. These are then fully tested in order to ensure that the product will achieve its function and fulfil the customer’s specific requirements.

This provides us with the opportunity to highlight any areas where the product requires further development, so that it can be re-addressed by the design and development team. It also ensures that variability is minimised when manufacturing.

This means that the final product is fully evolved and designed to give the best possible results.

Our development processes are:

- Prototyping - We can build to process low volume batches

- Design for manufacture - Our in-house design rules and procedures ensure manufacturability

- Product validation - (EMC, Temperature, Vibration etc) Using in-house facilities and outsourced services we can offer a full validation of a product including RF approval and CE marking

MANUFACTURE

At Zirkon, we are committed to continuous investment in technology to provide our customers with solutions that have been produced using the latest hardware and techniques.

The result is high speed, intelligent production and reliable manufacturing processes, giving customers the confidence that their products are being produced to the highest possible specification, whether prototype or large batch.

We are a leading PCB (printed circuit board) assembler providing both through-hole and the latest surface-mount facilities. In addition to PCBs, we offer hand assembly, strip, crimp for harness assembly and complete unit build capabilities to ensure that the highest quality and most appropriate manufacturing combination is used.

We have the facility to fit in excess of 70,000 board components an hour, including BGA, QFP (fine pitch of just 0.013") and 0201 size components.

Our manufacturing capabilities are:

· Surface Mount Technology(SMT)
    o 0201 passives
    o QFP and µBGA
o Single and double sided reflow, no clean flux

· Through Hole (TH)
    o Automated through hole insertion
o Flow wave solder, no clean flux
    o Intrusive reflow

· Optical Inspection
    o Automated (AOI) and manual

· Hand soldering
    o SMT and TH

· Wiring Harnesses
o Automated wire stripping and terminal crimping
    o Connector soldering
    o Shrinking and sleeving

· Encapsulation
    o Conformal coating
o Single and two part potting

· Mechanical Assembly
    o Linkages, brackets etc
    o Actuators
o Final assembly into plastic and metalwork enclosures

TEST

At Zirkon we offer computer controlled testing facilities to ensure that the final product specification meets with our customers’ requirements. We are dedicated to product quality throughout the whole manufacturing process. Where required, every manufactured unit is tested to a pre-agreed specification prior to release.

Our test capabilities are:

- In Circuit Test (ICT)

- Final Functional Test (FFT) - various systems from computer controlled instruments to custom test fixtures.

- Burn In (Screening) - Ovens ranging form -70°C to +180°C

- Radio Frequency - (RF) Screened rooms and equipment for up to 2.9GHz

LOGISTICS

After completion of product manufacture and test, Zirkon continues to offer high levels of service to our customers. In order to transport the end product to its final destination as efficiently as possible, we can hold, kit, pack and direct ship products both nationally and to global locations from our central production facility. In addition, goods and packaging can be own-branded for our customers.

Our logistics services are:

- Direct ship to end user - Products can be shipped in bulk or in small quantities to the end users.

- Returnable packaging – Returnable packaging is preferred in line with ISO 14001.

- Overnight delivery – Despatches are made on a daily basis for next day delivery in the UK.

- Worldwide shipments – Shipments can be made to anywhere in the world, via road, sea or air as required.

- Kit products – Kit of parts can be made up and shipped. These may contain items such as electronic units, connection leads, fixing screws, batteries, labels and instructions.
